Right now, inflation is inescapable. At the grocery store, the gas station, and in almost every country in the world, people are playing more — way more — than they did just a couple of years ago for everything.

In this video, we explore three explanations for why prices are rising, as well as different policy options for bringing them down.

Inside Out is a people's art project that won the TED Prize in 2011. In this talk, Ellen Doherty shares her experiences bringing the photography project to the shores of Lake Malawi. Tragically, Ellen passed away only weeks after giving this beautiful talk.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

These are not your everyday cyclists. They are chief executives and high profile personalities, from leading institutions in South Africa.

They have taken time off their busy schedule, to come to Malawi, to cycle a distance of more than 500 kilometers, all for charity.

Computershare, a leading South African firm, has organized this event in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Culture.

Sosten Lingwalanya, is the Deputy Director of Tourism, and the person in charge of coordinating the programme, on behalf of the ministry.

The event; was basically a form of sports tourism, which saw these high profile men and women cycle from Crossroads Roundabout, in the City of Lilongwe, all the way to Salima,
and then proceeding to Mangochi, before ascending the treacherous terrain of Machinga-Zomba Mountain range, and ending the adventure, on the top of spectacular Zomba plateau.

The Change of Life Cycle, is a fundraiser, for the Mike Thomson Change of Life Trust,
set up; following the brutal murder of Computershare Senior Manager, Mike Thomson,
who was killed at his home in South Africa.

It has been held in various African countries; since 2007. But how was Malawi, chosen for the 2010 event? No wonder it is the warm heart of Africa

Stan Lorge, is Computershare Chief Executive Office, and he is clearly pleased the event organisers, chose to hold it in Malawi. And all the cyclists, were clearly loving their adventure too.
But this event, wasn't just about having fun,and enjoying the beautiful Malawian scenery,
and its warm people.

The Chief executives, also found time to make donations of bicycle ambulances, and assorted books, in Mangochi. And the donations, are more than welcome for people of Mangochi,
who are very thankful.Mr. Thomas Chirwa, is the district Commissioner, for Mangochi:

At the end of this adventure, the cyclists had a gala dinner; at the magnificent Ku Chawe inn,
which was presided over, by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Culture Hon.
who was thrilled with the success of the event.

They came, they cycled and they gave. With some of the promising to return with their families, Malawi, can only be proud that it is fast becoming a destination of choice,
for tourism!

We were honoured to welcome the President of Malawi to Edinburgh to pay tribute to the strong civic-society links between Scotland and Malawi.

Around 160 Scots with links to Malawi, including school children, NGOs and members of the Malawian diaspora, attended this special civic event with the President in central Edinburgh.

Lilongwe Wildlife Centre in Lilongwe, Malawi

The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre is a wildlife sanctuary in Lilongwe, Malawi. It was founded in 2007 by the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust (LWT), with support from the Born Free Foundation. The Centre is a member of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance.

Lilongwe Wildlife Trust (LWT) was established in 2008 when it opened the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre as a wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education facility. Its mission is to protect Malawi’s wildlife by helping wild animals in need, combatting wildlife crime and empowering guardians of the wild. It currently operates four programmes: wildlife rescue and welfare, wildlife research, education and advocacy, and wildlife law enforcement.

The Wildlife Centre in the heart of the country’s capital city is the hub for both wildlife rescue and education. Based around a small, urban nature reserve, it normally houses about 200 animals (most of them brought in by LWT’s Wildlife Emergency Rescue Unit) and returns them to the wild wherever possible. It also welcomes over 34,000 visitors a year, more than 25,000 of whom are school children participating in the environmental education programme, which is linked to the national curriculum. Education outreach also takes the programme to schools in major cities and around protected areas. Meanwhile broader advocacy raises public awareness of conservation issues, in particular wildlife crime. LWT also supports government agencies in wildlife investigations and prosecutions, which has led to an increase in arrests of 1,000% and many significant jail sentences rather than small fines.

Tusk has supported the education work of LWT, providing opportunities for the local community to experience the flora and fauna of Malawi and developing conservation awareness amongst communities across the country.

The work of LWT is vital to inspire the country’s young people to become guardians of their natural heritage. It needs our continuing support to achieve this goal.
