The Central African Republic's dry season is coming to an end and recent heavy rains over the capital Bangui led to power and water #shortages for 10 days. But for hundreds of thousands of the city's residents, this was nothing new. The company that supplies running water to #Bangui was created in 1970, when it served some 100,000 people. The city's population has since grown to 1.5 million people, very few of whom have daily access to running water. Our correspondent Clément Di Roma reports.

High tensions, demonstrations, deadly clashes with riot police - all because of language. It's happening in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon. The unrest began with lawyers protesting against the use of French in courts, soon followed by teachers who have been on strike ever since. They blame Cameroon's central government for imposing the domination of the French language. Our correspondents report.

Lord Cameron has warned the US Congress not to repeat the mistakes of the 1930s by blocking a multi-billion pound aid package for Ukraine.

The Foreign Secretary said the West must not “show the weakness displayed against Hitler”, in an unusually blunt intervention into American politics.

In an article for The Hill, an influential Washington newspaper read by Capitol Hill policymakers and insiders, he said approving the support for Kyiv was “a matter of global security”.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will join other leaders in Bujumbura Burundi today. The President will participate in the High-Level Meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of Peace, Security and Cooperation framework.

The meeting will focus on the current conflict in the Eastern Part of the DRC. The conflict has led to tensions in the Great Lakes region.

The meeting comes at a time when the continent is also dealing with another challenge in Sudan.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has described the human rights impact of the ongoing conflict as catastrophic.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterress has warned that the conflict risks being a full blown war unless parties agree to permanent cessation of hostilities. The conflict in Sudan erupted three weeks ago as a result of a power struggle between Sudan's two most powerful and largest military forces: the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

This comes at a time where Burundi will be hosting a meeting of heads of state and governments who are part of African Union Peace and Security Council.
