A second day of hearings into the legality of Israel’s 56-year occupation of Palestinian territory is underway at the United Nations’ highest court.

After Palestine put forward its case on Monday, 51 countries are presenting their arguments over the rest of the week.
The representative of South Africa compared the Israeli occupation to apartheid.
He said the ICJ's hearings could help bring an end to a system of racial oppression, that had no place in the modern world.

South Africa has told the International Court of Justice on day two of public hearings into the legality of Israel's occupation, that racial oppression and apartheid cannot be allowed to continue.
Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the Netherlands said Israel's behaviour towards the Palestinians had no justification. He said they were being treated like objects that could be thrown away.

Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, said that Israel's occupation, illegal settlement, and dispossession of Palestinians are root causes that must be addressed for real peace.

One can only hope the Saudi position at the ICJ is the same as the one Saudi Arabia makes to the United States and Israel in the future.

Because in the back corridors of power, we hear in the Western and Israeli media that Saudi Arabia is eager to normalise relations with Israel, that it’s more than happy just to sidestep the Palestinian issue, that all it says regarding the Palestinian question is lip service.

In the context of Gaza, in the context of genocide, in the context of Israel and the Middle East, in the context of the widening of the war, we can only talk of the US backing of Israel. Because without it, Israel would not have been able to carry out genocide, and it would not be able to stand up to the international community as we see it today at The Hague.

Israel criticizes South Africa as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rejects a plea to limit Israeli operations in Rafah, sparking tensions. South Africa's request for additional measures to deter a potential Israeli military operation in Rafah is denied by the court. The ICJ urges Israel to adhere to its orders for protecting Palestinians' lives in Gaza. The Foreign Ministry strongly condemns South Africa for seeking restrictions on Israeli military actions in Rafah, accusing it of acting as the legal arm of Hamas and advancing terrorist interests. Israel asserts its right to protect citizens, uphold international law, facilitate humanitarian aid transfer, and prevent harm to civilians. The ICJ had previously ordered Israel to take measures preventing its troops from committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
