Eleven candidates in the Comoros have called for a review of the country's electoral process ahead of the March 24 presidential elections. The collective of opposition parties on Wednesday demanded a credible and transparent vote.

One person has died and at least 25 people including a child have been injured in violent protests that erupted against Comoros President Azali Assoumani's re-election, a health official said on Thursday. Demonstrations erupted on Wednesday, two days after the electoral body declared Assoumani the winner.

Presidential elections have kicked off in Comoros and voters are at the moment casting their ballots for a new president.
There were slight delays in some polling stations where the voting materials arrived late.
The other polling stations however officially opened at 0400 GMT.

Provisional results of the presidential elections in Comoros show the vice president and candidate of the ruling party, Mohamed Ali Soilih, won the first round of Sunday's election with 17.61 per cent of votes.
