Amid ongoing Israeli bombardment of Gaza, Egypt has beefed up security along the borders with the Palestinian enclave, deploying thousands of security forces, reported Associated Press. President Abdel Fattah el Sisi affirmed his country’s “categorical rejection of the displacement of Palestinians to Egypt in any way or form, a position that enjoys full international consensus,” according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency, TRT World reports.

It came during a telephone call received by el Sisi from French President Emmanuel Macron amid Israel’s escalation in Rafah and international warnings against pushing Palestinians toward Egyptian territories.

Mohammed Morsi took the oath of office on Saturday to become Egypt's first freely elected President and its first head of state since Hosni Mubarak's overthrow last year.

Egypt has reportedly sent warnings to Israel over its military operation in Rafah. Cairo has stated that the Rafah invasion will lead to the end of the peace treaty with Israel. Egypt has even deployed tanks to bolster security on its border with Gaza. The deployment comes as the IDF begins its operations around Gaza’s southern city of Rafah. The Israeli PM, however, has specified that he is unwilling to alter Rafah operation plans. Netanyahu said that asking Israel not to enter Rafah is like telling us to lose war against Hamas."

Egypt has sworn in a new government, led by Kamal el-Ganzouri, who was appointed interim prime minister by the military council two weeks earlier.

The previous cabinet resigned last month during clashes between police and protesters demanding that the army step aside.

The military council has also issued a decree handing over more power and authority to the prime minister.

Egypt's foreign minister met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Monday in the first visits to Syria and Turkey by a top Egyptian diplomat in a decade.
