Malawi's new President Lazarus Chakwera has promised to serve rather than rule the people of his country. Chakwera has officially been sworn-in in Lilongwe as the new President of Malawi. He took his oath of office following victory in the re-run election on Tuesday, that's being seen as a democratic first in Sub-Saharan Africa. He defeated his predecessor Peter Mutharika with just over 58-percent of the vote. The rerun was called after Malawi's Constitutional Court annulled Mutharika's victory in the May 2019 election, citing vote tampering.
