Lawmakers in Togo have begun work on constitutional reform bill that would allow for presidential term limits in the country. The government proposed the bill following protest by opposition groups demanding a two-term limit for the office of President and a two-round voting system. The opposition is mounting pressure on President Faure Gnassingbe to step down after spending 12 years in power. His current term, which is the third, is due to end in three years time. Thousands throng the streets of Togo's seaside capital after the ruling party asks supporters to march at the same time as planned opposition protests demanding the removal of President Faure Gnassingbe, the scion of Africa's oldest political dynasty.
