The 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, also known as NAM, has kicked off in Uganda, with global conflicts and climate change at the top of the agenda.

NAM is the largest association of nations after the UN, and was to bring together third world countries, and give them a platform to push interests that don't converge with those of the world's largest powers. The summit's relevance has grown as its members catch up economically and technologically with the global north but its an increasingly precarious balancing act is as major divides re-emerge. FRANCE 24 spoke to Uganda's main opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine. The star musician-turned-politician called for "civil disobedience, a moral uprising, a revolution" in Uganda, which has been ruled for 38 years by President Yoweri Museveni. "I fear for my life because I know that the regime is bent on eliminating all kind of challenges", said Wine, who was recently placed under house arrest and whose driver was shot dead in 2018. The next elections in Uganda are scheduled for 2026.

Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Saturday that the Philadelphi Corridor buffer zone that runs along Gaza's border with Egypt must be in Israeli hands. The area territory includes the Rafah Crossing, Gaza's only connection to the Arab world. The Israeli military believes there are tunnels full of ammunition and "a lot of long-range missiles" have been coming into Gaza through these tunnels from Egypt, says journalist Sami Sockol, reporting from Jerusalem.

Egypt and Jordan warned Israel against reoccupying Gaza after the war. The warning came at a meeting between Egyptian President, Jordan's King and President of the Palestinian Authority. Mahmoud Abbas, Jordan's King Abdullah II, and Egypt's Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi also restated their rejection of any plans to displace Palestinians from their lands. A Jordanian official told Reuters, "The Arabs are telling the Americans the priority now is to get a ceasefire and push Israel to allow Palestinians to go back to northern Gaza, and ease the overcrowding near (the southern town of) Rafah, which is alarming both the Egyptians and the Jordanians."
