ose Silva, Prime Minister of Cape Verde, the only Island-country in West Africa, has pledged better cooperation and increase in trade volumes between Nigeria and his country in the coming years.

Cabo Verde is now the 41st country to ratify the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The ACFTA aims to open up intra Africa trade by liberalising and creating a single market for goods, by removing the existing barriers to trade with the continent.

The progress of this continental flagship project for trade was discussed by the heads of state in the just concluded summit.

A Guinean association based in the neighbourhood of Alto da Glória on the outskirts of the capital of Cabo Verde, Praia, is working hard to keep the culture and traditions of their home country alive. Older members of the cultural association, Cabaz di Terra, are teaching their children about the song, dance, and poetry of Guinea-Bissau. They believe it is important that the young people born in Cape Verde understand the culture of the country their families come from.

The government of Cape Verde has announced its intention to rename its national stadium after Pele, the late Brazilian football legend.

Jose Ulisses Correia e Silva, the country’s prime minister, broke the news in a post on Facebook on Wednesday.

This comes after Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, on Monday, called on countries around the world to name one of their stadiums after the three-time World Cup winner.
Pele was laid to rest on Tuesday following a private funeral in the city of Santos, Brazil.

A missing soldier is suspected of killing 11 people on Tuesday at a military barracks in Cape Verde, the island's government said.

"A soldier who is with the detachment is missing and there is a strong evidence that he is involved in the killings," the Cape Verdean government said in a statement published on its website.
