The whole surgery and post-medical care costs were covered by Lenox Hill and Northwell Health and we are just crushing on them and on the U.S. government official who originally made this good story happen. Saving Africa’s Giraffe: How to Create a Movement

NEWS talk by Dr Julian Fennessy and Dr Michael Brown (Giraffe Conservation Foundation):

On the shortest day of the year, we will celebrate the tallest animal on Earth. The Giraffe Conservation Foundation is a Namibian-based conservation NGO working across 19 African countries to secure a future for giraffes in the wild. The GCF team delved into the various programmes and initiatives that they have supported and/or implemented, and how building strong collaborative partnerships leading to direct conservation actions has resulted in giraffe numbers increasing and their range expanding.

Dr Julian Fennessy is the Director at the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, Adjunct Assoc. Prof. at University College Dublin, Ireland, and founder of the IUCN SSS Giraffe & Okapi Specialist Group.
Dr Michael Brown is the Conservation Science Coordinator at the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, a Fellow at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and a member of the IUCN SSS Giraffe & Okapi Specialist Group.

This presentation was held on 19 June 2023 at the Namibia Scientific Society.

The Western Cape Department of Community Safety and Police Oversight says it's been a depressing weekend in Cape Town. At least seven people were shot dead in Manenberg and Nyanga. Gang violence is suspected of being behind numerous fatal shootings in Manenberg.

What’s an MPA I hear you ask? Well, it’s a Marine Protected Area where human activity is limited to protect the environment and wildlife from us. A network of 20 new marine protected area has been approved by the South African government which will increase the percentage of protected areas from 0.4% to 5% that is a massive improvement and will bring south Africa halfway to their proposed target of 10%.
