Negli anni Ottanta, Thomas Sankara cercò di salvare il Burkina Faso, e l'Africa intera, con la sua rivoluzione condotta contro il giogo coloniale e imperialista dell'Occidente. Dopo aver negato l'intervento del Fondo Monetario Internazionale, il cui debito avrebbe legato indissolubilmente i burkinabé, Sankara diventò il portavoce dell'Africa intera, il simbolo di un continente sfruttato e che chiedeva giustizia, parità di diritti e modernizzazione. Denominato il "Che Guevara" africano, Sankara fu un visionario e portò enormi risultati nei pochi anni in cui fu al governo: il PIL del Burkina Faso crebbe come mai prima di allora, mentre alfabetizzazione e investimenti cominciavano a permeare il tessuto sociale di un paese che stava cominciando ad uscire pian piano dal Terzo Mondo. I risultati furono senza precedenti. Tuttavia, la congiura ordita contro Sankara fu l'esempio lampante dell'immutabilità della situazione, la vittoria dello status quo di chi teneva in mano le redini della geopolitica mondiale. Quale morale ci tramanda oggi Thomas Sankara? Vediamo di ripercorrere le orme di una delle più affascinanti figure del Novecento.

Chaque année, environ 8 000 candidats venus du monde entier se présentent au centre de sélection de la Légion étrangère à Aubagne, dans les Bouches-du-Rhône. Quels que soient leur passé, leur origine ou leur religion, ces candidats, âgés de 17 à 40 ans, ont la possibilité de commencer une nouvelle vie grâce à la Légion. Mais un sur dix sera retenu. Depuis leur sélection jusqu’à la fameuse marche du képi blanc, redoutable épreuve d’endurance de 50 kilomètres, des recrues ont été suivies. Pendant quatre mois, les engagés vont apprendre à parler le français, à combattre et à se dépasser. Certains suivront des cours de natation. Les équipes ont également accompagné les paras du 2e Régiment étranger de parachutistes (REP) au cours d’une opération aéroportée d’envergure.

- Key highlights for thematical session, the PSC held its very first session on the role of mercenaries and private military and defense companies in peace and security in Africa.
- In alignment with the New Agenda for Peace, the AU PSC convened with UN PBC to discuss prevention strategy, resource mobilization, and areas of collaboration between the PSC and PBC.
- As for country-specific issues, the PSC covered the situation in Sudan with the announcement to establish a High-Level Ad hoc Panel on Sudan.
- They also assessed the progress and challenges in the implementation the of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan in light of upcoming elections.
- In the final weeks of Dec the PSC will also hold informal consultations and briefings on the countries in Political Transition: Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso
