AIR is a unique design competition that builds partnerships between nonprofits - and artists - and teams of volunteer web developers, designers and other tech specialists. The end goal of this partnership is two-fold:

- For the Development Teams: learning how to build accessible websites that work for people of all abilities.

NALLYWOOD is a film and entertainment production company that mostly focuses on educating learners, to improve their inborn skills and talents that can in future enhance and increase their chance of becoming entrepreneurs, self-employees and earn a living regardless of their academic performance. In addition, the project also aims at giving hope to the hopeless and have them redirected in realizing that there is a lot they can accomplish parallel to their academics as addressed by Dr. Howard Gardener's theory of multiple intelligence.

Thus, I have initiated a Namibian talent development project (Namibia's Greatest Show) that we have introduced to all Namibian schools and the general public with the youth as our main target. The goal and mission are to be able to enhance skills in acting, dancing, singing, and not limited to a variety of other talents as supported extra-curricular framework. I believe this will be beneficial to the education system. The future generation as well as the community as a whole. This will also contribute to the expansion of the arts, music and film industry in Namibia.

The NALLYWOOD team, therefore, host auditions at different schools then we choose the best learner students to perform on well-known local halls centers where all schools will be a part of and they will all compete for prizes that will also benefit the winner's school and the community at large.

engAGED and Commit to Connect recently hosted a two-day Virtual Summit! Taking place August 2 and 3 from 1:00-3:30 pm ET, the Summit brought together researchers and national, state and local leaders for discussions regarding the current state of social isolation research and practical implications for the social engagement work of the Aging Network, disability network and partner organizations. 2013 is the ten year anniversary of the conflict in Darfur and sadly there is no end in sight for conflict, violence and human rights abuses and ongoing displacement of civilian Dafurians.

At this event we examined if the Australian government has a role in this crisis and if it can use its seat in the UN Security Council to keep Darfur high on the agenda and to pressure the Sudanese Government into stopping its human rights abuses against the people of Darfur, Nuba Mountains and the Blue Nile.

This webinar focused on advancing understanding of the gendered impacts of energy access. Women and men have different energy needs and different levels of access to and control over energy sources and technologies. Unless these differences are addressed through targeting women and gender-sensitive policies, we will not achieve true universal energy access. This webinar provided insights on how access to energy, both electricity and clean cooking, impacts women and men differently and how policymakers can increase benefits for women. Engaging both women and men in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs will be essential to gender-equitable energy access outcomes.

Chaochao draws insights from extensive research on the topic of introverts’ career development and her personal experiences traversing through several types of roles that were stereotyped as atypical for introverts. This class dispels the myth that introverts may not be best suited for a career in product management due to its highly people-oriented nature.

Simge Andı explores in detail the different sources people use to learn more about climate change and how this is affected by age, education, and political affiliation.

Simge Andı is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. She works on the Digital News Project, and uses survey and experimental data to study the consumption and sharing of online news. Before coming to Oxford, Simge was a research and teaching assistant at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Koç University in Istanbul.

We are incredibly excited and proud to announce our finalists to you. Last Friday, our board of directors read through every application and voted on the ideas and narrowed down the ideas to just five finalists. We had a ton of ideas that were all fantastic and it was a highly debated conversation. It is not an easy process to narrow down. There are so many amazing ideas that we believe in and wish we could support, but these are the 5 strongest applications and we're excited to present the finalists to you!

1. BeLoved Atlanta // Amelia Quinn

The Problem Being Solved: Lack of resources and support for women desiring to escape the sex industry within the city of Atlanta. BeLoved Atlanta's solution is to create a residential home community empowering women in the sex industry to regain their freedom through restoration, education, and reintegration into society. This is a unique approach because we are the only residential home located within the city of Atlanta specifically for women escaping the sex industry. As our team studied under similar organizations, we often found that women would find healing and restoration outside of a city then as they graduated they would move back into the city for work and would not have learned how to overcome triggers in the city. Our hope is to help women heal in the environment they will most likely live in when they reintegrate into society.

2. Scizzle // Gaia Vasiliver-Shamis

The Problem Being Solved: These days everyone is trying to keep up with the wealth of information on the web. But unlike most of us that just want to keep up with news, social media and blogs; scientists are struggling to keep up with scientific literature. Staying current is key for brilliant scientists and for outstanding research and can lead to significant life-changing and life saving discoveries. Today, researchers must use multiple resources and tools to search, find and organize relevant papers, a very time consuming and inefficient process. In reality, scientists often fail to keep up, which results in further time loss -- a time they could have spent reading the right papers, getting new ideas and advancing science to the benefit of us all.

3. Urban Perform // Laura Pritchard-Compton

The Problem Being Solved: Urban Perform is solving the exercise and nutrition disparity problem by providing active lifestyle opportunities and quality nutrition lessons to low-income, urban neighborhoods in Atlanta. In the communities we serve, exercise and healthy eating are viewed as values for the elite . When living in low-income neighborhoods there are many barriers for doing seeming everyday activities like going to the gym and purchasing fresh, unprocessed foods:. A. Gyms are too expensive for the average earner in a low income area B. Gyms and grocery stores are often not easily accessible (either not on a bus/train line or not located within the neighborhood). C. The corner stories located within the neighborhood do not sell fresh produce. Due to these three barriers and lack of quality health and nutrition education our neighbors often have never had the chance to value exercise and healthy eating. Urban Perform is fighting this disparity by making exercise available to all and partnering with local organizations to provide nutrition lessons and cooking classes. Our after school programs, exercise classes, and summer camp combat obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

4. Global Growers // Susan Pavlin

The Problem Being Solved: We are connecting Georgia's small farmers with Georgia's largest kitchens -- universities, hospitals, hotels, and schools -- to rebuild a local food economy that has been lost in our country. Our national food system is in crisis. It is not feeding our country -- in Georgia, one in five children go to bed hungry each night. And it is a major contributor to the declining health and lifespan of average Americans, the environmental degradation of our natural resources, and even our country's geopolitical position. Creating farmers, delivering healthy local meals to thousands of people, and connecting our children with good food and farms can change this formula in Georgia, and show the rest of the nation how it's done.

5. Kula Project // Sarah Buchanan

The Problem Being Solved: Hunger, malnourishment, unemployment, education, and reducing the global water crisis. After spending time in Africa and seeing first hand the need for food and water, my partner and I knew we had to do something, so we decided to put two problems together to create a solution. The question became, "How can we teach people to grow their own food while using less water the same time?" 925 million people around the world suffer from hunger and malnourishment, and 800 million of them do not have access to clean water. In my research I read, "Hunger is the most extreme manifestation of poverty and arguably the most morally unacceptable," and we agree.

On January 22, 2015, Kellner Family Chair in Urban Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was the featured speaker in the Distinguished Educational Thinkers and Critical Consciousness Speaker Series at UC Davis. The series is presented by the UC Davis School of Education and the Graduate Group in Education, along with the Social Justice Education Coalition, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Office of Campus Community Relations.
