The racism embedded in U.S. society and the associated historical and present-day injustices have subjected people of color to far greater environmental health hazards. It is not surprising that climate change, the result of a legacy of extraction, colonialism, and slavery, disproportionately impacts communities of color, poor people, and indigenous people. Further, racial inequality has left those most at risk from climate change with the fewest resources to cope. Climate action is, therefore, intimately tied to racial justice. This webinar examines the disparate impacts of climate on communities of color in the United States.

What does it mean to have a free news media? What regulations limit what media can do? How do the media contribute to informing citizens and monitoring politicians and the government, and how do we measure their impact? This chapter explores these and other questions about the role of the media in the United States.

This talk will argue that DevOps could be the best thing to happen to application security since OWASP, if developers and operations teams are enabled to make security a part of their everyday work. With a ratio of 100/10/1 for Development, Operations, and Security, security now needs to concentrate on creating tools, processes and opportunities for dev and ops that result in more-secure products, instead of trying to do it all themselves like they did in days past. We must build security into each of “The Three Ways”; automating and/or improving efficiency of all security activities to ensure we don’t slow down developers, speeding up feedback loops for security related activities so that we fix the bugs faster and sooner, and providing continuous learning opportunities in relation to security, for both teams. Security can no longer be a gate or stumbling block, and ‘adding security in’ can no longer be used as a justification for project delays. If developers are sprinting, then we need to sprint too. So put on your running shoes; it’s time for DevSecOps!

ABSTRACT
Marc works with an initiative that seeks to make biological and genomic data open and available such that anyone can go play with it and form communities around working with this data. The hope is that by having data freely available people there will be many more people working with the data and thus more leads into potential therapies and cures.
How to Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed
About the book:
In How to Create a Mind, The Secret of Human Thought Revealed, the bold futurist and author of The New York Times bestseller The Singularity Is Near explores the limitless potential of reverse engineering the human brain. Ray Kurzweil is arguably today's most influential—and often controversial—futurist. In How to Create a Mind, Kurzweil presents a provocative exploration of the most important project in human-machine civilization—reverse engineering the brain to understand precisely how it works and using that knowledge to create even more intelligent machines. Kurzweil discusses how the brain functions, how the mind emerges from the brain, and the implications of vastly increasing the powers of our intelligence in addressing the world's problems. He thoughtfully examines emotional and moral intelligence and the origins of consciousness and envisions the radical possibilities of our merging with the intelligent technology we are creating. Certain to be one of the most widely discussed and debated science books of the year, How to Create a Mind is sure to take its place alongside Kurzweil's previous classics.
Early praise for the book:
It is rare to find a book that offers unique and inspiring content on
every page. How To Create A Mind achieves that and more. Ray has a
way of tackling seemingly overwhelming challenges with any army of
reason, in the end convincing the reader that it is within our reach
to create non-biological intelligence that will soar past our own.
This is a visionary work that is also accessible and entertaining.
-Rafael Reif, President of MIT
Kurzweil's new book on the mind is magnificent, timely, and solidly
argued!! His best so far!
-Marvin Minsky, Co-founder of the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab
One of the eminent AI pioneers, Ray Kurzweil, has created a new book
to explain the true nature of intelligence, both biological and
non-biological. The book describes the human brain as a machine that
can understand hierarchical concepts ranging from the form of a chair
to the nature of humor. His important insights emphasize the key role
of learning both in the brain and AI. He provides a credible roadmap
for achieving the goal of super human intelligence which will be
necessary to solve the grand challenges of humanity.
-Raj Reddy, founder, Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon
University
If you have ever wondered about how your mind works, read this book.
Kurzweil's insights reveal key secrets underlying human thought and
our ability to recreate it. This is an eloquent and thought-provoking
work.
-Dean Kamen, founder of FIRST
About the Author
Ray Kurzweil has been described as "the restless genius" by the Wall
Street Journal, and "the ultimate thinking machine" by Forbes. Inc. magazine ranked him #8 among entrepreneurs in the United States, calling him the "rightful heir to Thomas Edison," and PBS included Ray as one of 16 "revolutionaries who made America," along with other inventors of the past two centuries.
As one of the leading inventors of our time, Kurzweil was the
principal developer of the first CCD flat-bed scanner, the first omni-font optical character recognition, the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind, the first text-to-speech synthesizer, the first music synthesizer capable of recreating the grand piano and other orchestral instruments, and the first commercially marketed large-vocabulary
speech recognition. His website Kurzweil AI.net has more than one
million readers.
Among Kurzweil's many honors, he is the recipient of the $500,000 MIT-Lemelson Prize, the world's largest for innovation. In 1999, he received the National Medal of Technology, the nation's highest honor in technology, from President Clinton in a White House ceremony. And in 2002, he was inducted into the National Inventor's Hall of Fame, established by the US Patent Office. He has received 19 honorary Doctorates and honors from three U.S. presidents. Kurzweil is the author of five books, four of which have been national best sellers.
The Age of Spiritual Machines has been translated into nine languages. His last book, The Singularity is Near, was a New York Times-best seller and has been translated into eight languages.
This talk was hosted by Boris Debic on behalf of Authors at Google.

NALLYWOOD is a film and entertainment production company that mostly focuses on educating learners, to improve their inborn skills and talents that can in future enhance and increase their chance of becoming entrepreneurs, self-employees and earn a living regardless of their academic performance. In addition, the project also aims at giving hope to the hopeless and have them redirected in realizing that there is a lot they can accomplish parallel to their academics as addressed by Dr. Howard Gardener's theory of multiple intelligence.
Thus, I have initiated a Namibian talent development project (Namibia's Greatest Show) that we have introduced to all Namibian schools and the general public with the youth as our main target. The goal and mission are to be able to enhance skills in acting, dancing, singing, and not limited to a variety of other talents as supported extra-curricular framework. I believe this will be beneficial to the education system. The future generation as well as the community as a whole. This will also contribute to the expansion of the arts, music and film industry in Namibia.
The NALLYWOOD team, therefore, host auditions at different schools then we choose the best learner students to perform on well-known local halls centers where all schools will be a part of and they will all compete for prizes that will also benefit the winner's school and the community at large.

Join YouthLead Ambassadors Nyasha and Chiranthi to discuss combatting child marriage through youth advocacy on family planning and Reproductive Health Rights.
About this event
The continuing practice of child marriage violates the reproductive health rights (RHR) of child brides and grooms—forcing them into roles that have lifelong consequences. Driven by societal norms, religious beliefs, and cultural endorsement of the practice, child marriage persists in local communities in both sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
Family planning and reproductive health youth-advocacy programming are effective in helping to change the societal norms surrounding the practice of child marriage, for example, engaging communities in holistic conversation. To learn more about these methods and address the importance of civil society at the community level, we invite you to join YouthLead ambassadors Nyasha Freeman Musikambesa from Zimbabwe and Chiranthi Senanayake from Sri Lanka on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Nyasha and Chiranthi will discuss how effective youth advocacy can be in promoting family-planning and RHR education.
Attendees of this webinar will learn from Nyasha and Chiranthi’s experience in effective RHR youth advocacy in the context of on-the-ground realities in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and be guided through problem analysis and a discussion of the effects of child marriage practice on individuals and communities.
