A local rides his fancy, grey stallion in Lesotho en route to Mokhotlong. The horse was in relatively good condition even though his bit was made of twisted wire.
Across the rough grasslands of Lesotho, jockeys wearing wool balaclavas and scruffy old helmets urge their horses towards the finishing post as hundreds of spectators cheer from a nearby hillside. Horseracing in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho is not like at Ascot or Longchamp, but it is still highly competitive, involves lots of gambling and is a major social occasion.

The Birds-of-Paradise Project presents “Tanah Papua: A Paradise for Birds”.
Indonesia’s provinces of Papua and West Papua on the island of New Guinea make up the Land of Papua, or "Tanah Papua" in the Indonesian language. This region supports one of the only remaining large tropical forests in the world and is home to nearly half of Indonesia’s biodiversity. Over 600 species of birds are found in Papua, including 27 bird-of-paradise species, many of which live nowhere else on earth. Global interest in Papua’s birdlife is leading to increased opportunity for wildlife tourism and bringing newfound economic benefits to local communities. Sustainable development is not only important for the future of Papua’s forests and people, but also for the world.
The Cornell Lab’s Birds-of-Paradise Project is working with the Governments of Papua and West Papua and other international partners to further science, engagement and conservation of the region’s biodiversity with a focus on the birds-of-paradise.

Equatorial Guinea is one of those countries hardly anyone ever asks me about but it proved to be the most difficult to visit. It's a "special" country. I was fortunate to receive a tour of the new capitol city Djibloho, which looked very impressive already (2016)! At the far end of a golf course behind a luxury hotel I spotted two chimps.
They were free to run off but had obviously grown accustomed to humans. A good guess would be that they were taken from their mother at a young age and fostered by humans. However that is only a guess. They were very curious and reminded me of four year old children. About the same intelligence but clearly much stronger!!
I actually have about 20 minutes of unedited video footage but who wants to see that? Here's a taste for you. Equatorial Guinea became the saga's 100th country

The Preuss's Monkey (Allochrocebus preussi) is a species of Old World monkey living in various regions in southwest Cameroon and southeast Nigeria and in Equatorial Guinea. This species is comprised of two subspecies: the Cameroon Preuss's monkey (A. p. preussi) found on the mainland and the Bioko Preuss's monkey (A. p. insularis) found only on Bioko Island, in Equatorial Guinea.
With an average of 79 to 345 inches (2,000 to 9,000 mm) of rainfall annually, Preuss's monkeys live in some of the wettest places in Africa. They are most abundant in montane and sub-montane forests, at least 8,200 feet (2,500 meters) above sea level and are rarely found below 2,600 feet (800 meters). As such, they are found with some certainty in the Cameroon Highlands and along the slopes of Mount Cameroon. Some populations live in various and isolated forest patches within montane grasslands as well. The subspecies on Bioko Island is particularly fond of the Schleffera forests found around Pico Basilé, the island's highest point, and in the Gran Caldera Scientific Reserve.
