Blawa, who had previously been blinded by a bite from another donkey was visited by SPANA’s mobile clinic in Nouakchott.
The vets tended to his back wounds, cleaning them and applying lotion. They put a doughnut bandage on the wound to stop friction on the wound, and they gave an antibiotic injection.
Blawa’s owner, Mohammad, said: ‘We really need these kinds of opportunities. We are honoured and encourage you to continue.’
The Banc d'Arguin National Park is one of MAVA's iconic sites.
This vast protected area, situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara Desert, stretches over 12 000 km² along the Mauritanian coast. It is home to the largest concentration of West African birds. Over two million resident or migratory birds find shelter and food in abundance in the area.
Traditional fishing in Mauritania. Fishermen communicate with Dolphins by splashing the ocean's water with a wood log. The dolphins respond by circling the fish flock and push the fish into shallow water where the fishermen are waiting with their nets. Great example of Harmony.
A Common Genet (Genetta genetta) had fallen into a dry well and was unable to escape. On our approach the animal stood still, pretending to be dead. We built an improvised chair using a recovery rope of the 4WD vehicle and walk down a person attached to the car's winch. After a few attempts, the animal was caught using a restraining pole and brought outside. We finally released it close to some trees.
