The SADC troika says it is concerned about the personal attacks directed at the Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and Nevers Mumba who headed the SADC's observer mission in the recent Zimbabwean elections. Hichilema who chairs the bloc's organ on politics, defence and security appointed Mumba. The SADC troika held a virtual meeting to scrutinize the bloc's observer mission report that painted a bleak picture of the Zimbabwean elections. BRICS has formally announced the admission of Argentina, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates into the BRICS group of countries.

The six entrants will be joining the BRICS countries as full members from the 1st of January 2024. This is the most significant development out of the BRICS Summit which was held in South Africa this week.

Namibia has failed to meet several targets outlined in the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Project.

The country scored a low rating of 4 out of 10, falling below the benchmark of 7.29 set in the Malabo Declaration, which was supposed to be achieved by 2025.

The African Development Bank recently released its macroeconomic outlook report for 2023. The bank sees a welcome recovery and economic resilience for African nations, in the short to medium term. However, it remains cautiously optimistic, given considerable global uncertainty. The 38th Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) kicked off in Windhoek, Namibia today.
SADC countries have committed to forge regional integration, promote democracy and economic development and ensure peace and stability.
In his message outgoing SADC chair, President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasised the need for peace in order to enable governments to consolidate democracy and better their economies.

The eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is increasingly hosting more foreign troops seeking to restore peace and stability in the volatile region. However, the recent move by Kinshasa to seek the combat capabilities of the Southern African Development Community against the M23 rebel group has attracted mixed reactions as there are already other East African regional troops and a UN peacekeeping force on a similar mission there.
